Dear Capa

“Dear Capa,

The first year of your life you have given me the best year of mine. It turns out on the other of exhaustion is bliss. Or maybe delusion. Either way it is a dream I prefer not to wake from.

Your letter is the first in a series of letters that I plan to write everyday. Some will be addressed to those who exist or have existed, and others will be written to fiction characters. This exercise is part practical and part exploratory, for my hands need discipline and my mind needs places to look.

You felt like the best person to start with because we will spend the rest of my life exploring the world together. Where you like to write is not as important as liking to learn. Before you were born I wracked my mind daily, trying to come up with clever aphorisms in which to teach you about life. Unfortunately, most of those pages are filled with incoherent sribbles (sp) or nothing at all.

I have found that most lessons or truths are learned through living—not being told. So I will live in these letters with people everyday with the hope to stumble across something true.

Thank you for coming into this world.

Love,
Your Dad”
