Boulder Colorado Engagement Photography

Olivia and Tim's Engagement in Boulder, Colorado | Eagle Trailhead Hiking Path | Adventure Engagement Photographer in CO | Rocky Mountain Weddings | Apollo Fields Photographers

Sometimes I feel like our identities are torn between New York and Colorado. It’s hard because I have a serious love for both states but for completely different reasons:

My NY side loves the art scene, ethnic food, the fast paced lifestyle, the ocean, and getting to dress in all black.

My Colorado side loves the mountains, the sense of adventure, the laid back culture, local beer, and getting to wear flannel.

Sometimes, I feel like we’re supposed to choose between these two worlds, but then I remember that we have intentionally carved out a lifestyle that allows us to wear both hats instead of picking only one or the other. It’s pretty damn cool and I think we are so lucky to be able to work in such epic places. What is extra cool for me, though, is when both of my worlds collide. Olivia and Tim’s engagement session was the perfect example of this.

Here’s the backstory… Olivia’s mom is one of the owners and the head trainer of the barn that I board my horse at in Northport, NY. Olivia and Tim recently relocated to the wild, wild west and just like that—BOOM—my worlds collide!

I love showing people around some of our favorite Colorado digs, so this was especially fun for me because they haven’t had a lot of time to explore the front range yet. We hit Eagle Trailhead for golden hour, and it did not disappoint.

Olivia and Tim have such a sweet and fun way about them. It made my job VERY easy because I barely had to pose or direct! It was more of, “okay so let’s go into this light and then just hang out together” click-click-click-click. It felt more like us all chilling by the foothills swapping war stories about turning my horse out than a formal session (AKA the dream for me). And trust me, there are always plenty of stories about Limbo to go around— one of Olivia’s first things she said to me was how my horse had a major meltdown with her when she was bringing him back to the barn once. Oh, Bimbo… he’s so adorable sometimes!

How to DIY a Wedding on a Budget

Casey & Thomas’s Wedding in Longmont, CO | Laid-Back Colorado Wedding Planning | Sentimental DIY Weddings | Apollo Fields Wedding Photography

It is always interesting to read the answers that our couples come up with to our pre-wedding questionnaire. It gives us a glimpse into their past and allows us to begin to picture what their wedding day might look like. After reading Casey and Thomas’s, I noticed that in every one of their answers there was a different, important aspect that goes into a healthy relationship, and I knew right then that their special day was going to go off with only one hitch (getting hitched, that is!).

After briefly dating in high school, Casey and Thomas reacquainted when Thomas was driving through Chicago about five years ago. They wound up meeting up for burgers and talking a lot and well, “the rest is history.” What this glimpse taught us about them was that they are steady, confident individuals who are comfortable meeting up with a friend from the past, but more importantly, it provided them the opportunity for serendipity to open their hearts to a long-lasting relationship.

After their romance had been rekindled, they dated long distance for six months, establishing a trust and system of communication that would later serve as the basis of their loving relationship (Isn’t it ironic how we can grow closer the farther we move apart?).

Yet an example of perhaps the most integral part of any relationship occurred when Casey received a large gift on her birthday from Thomas at her office.  She had no idea what it was, but when she tore back the wrapping to reveal an original print of a photographer she mentioned once (time to step up your games, fellas!), she was floored.  Being present enough to listen and conscientious enough to act is a level of thoughtfulness that every relationship can benefit from.

And I know that surprises aren’t for everyone, but Casey said she had NO idea that Thomas was going to propose.  I think I can speak for the married couples out there who must remember the nerves that coursed through their veins when the question was popped—kind of like the first time you went in for a kiss—and the immense relief that rested upon the lips of your partner on the other side.  A healthy dose of vulnerability can go a long way, and continuing to surprise your S.O. with acts of love will never get old.

Before I let Casey and Thomas’s beautiful relationship turn into a dating column on our website, let me finish with what they said they were most looking forward to on their wedding day: “looking out and seeing all of my favorite people together.”  It’s a simple enough answer, but the fact that they designed the itinerary of their day to maximize their time with those who traveled to the celebration of the union of their love showed their commitment to their communities.  Sometimes we can get caught up in all of the details that we forget that the assembly of all of our friends and family on our wedding day might never happen again—but Casey and Thomas did not.

Now I can only imagine that Casey and Thomas are probably laying on their backs on a mountaintop near Telluride, gazing up at the broad sky of stars, thinking of all of the things, big and small, that they will experience together, because they place value in every single one of them. Cheers to you, Casey and Thomas, and congratulations!

Boulder Creek Wedding Photography at Wedgewood Weddings

Erica & Matthew's Wedgewood Wedding at Boulder Creek | September Weddings | Colorado Wedding Photography | Apollo Fields Wedding Photographers

Erica and Matt are a fun loving couple who love to have a good celebration! I first met Erica downtown Denver for coffee and to chat about wedding planning and photography. I loved her energy and I could tell that she was super organized about wedding planning and really excited to incorporate her kiddos in the day. We immediately clicked and I was so excited to work with this fun couple!

I was excited to shoot their engagement session at Standley Lake in Arvada because they wanted to really reflect their lifestyles. It was important to have the kids a part of the session and we had a blast with them and bringing in their dirt bikes since they are avid dirt bikers! We had such a blast at the engagement session that I knew the wedding would be no different.

The day started with the guys and gals in separate locations. I had my second shooter head over to Matt and his groomsmen while I met Erica and her bridesmaids at their hotel in Boulder. Everyone was busy getting ready and it was a really fun start to the day. Then we went over to Chautauqua in Boulder for their first look. It was a busy day on the trails (weekends tend to me, just a heads up) so it took a bit of careful planning to choreograph their first look without a bunch of photo-bombers! This is where having a second shooter can be SUPER helpful because Sarah was able to monitor the traffic like a champ while I snapped away.

We were able to squeeze in some epic shots at Chautauqua before the rain came hard, so we all hustled back to our cars — and their awesome Corvette — to head over to the venue. Wedgewood Boulder Creek is tucked away into the mountains in a beautiful location right on the river. We were lucky because the weather lifted as soon as we got there (typical CO) and we were able to continue on with the ceremony outside. Everything was beautiful and we were so happy to be able to capture such awesome memories for this great couple!

Chandelle and Fabrice's Rocky Mountain Wedding

ESTES PARK RESORT | ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK | INTIMATE ADVENTURE WEDDING | ERNY PHOTO CO

Chandelle and Fabrice are a sweet couple who love the outdoors.

At first glance, they seem to be polar opposites, as Chandelle is outgoing and Fabrice is more soft spoken. But together, they mesh perfectly, finishing each others sentences and thoughts.

Who Popped The Question?

Fabrice planned to take Chandelle to her favorite location and pop the question. She had noticed the ring box in his pocket and figured out what he was up to. When they arrived, there were a ton of people around so Fabrice decided to wait. Chandelle, on the other hand, was wondering if he was having second thoughts since he didn’t ask. But instead, he took her out to South Point Park in Miamia for a picnic and found a beautiful spot that overlooked the ocean at sunset. It was perfect!

About The Wedding:

Chandelle and Fabrice had an intimate ceremony at the Estes Park Resort with friends and family. They had a purple, white and gold color palette that complimented the rocky mountains perfectly!

What The Future Holds:

Chandelle and Fabrice plan to buy a cozy mountain home near Estes Park and open up a business that caters to people visiting Rocky Mountain National Park!
